Amunga Wahid: The Rising Star of Stage and Skit

Amunga Wahid Injelwe has been making people laugh and think since he was a young boy. What started as simple school performances has grown into a promising journey in drama and comedy—one punchline, one skit, one stage at a time.
Amunga’s love for performance began in Class 3 at Nabongo Mumia Primary School in Bungoma County. From a young age, he stood out in drama festivals, taking part in competitions and often emerging a winner at the regional level. His energy on stage and ability to embody characters made him a favorite among peers and teachers alike.
By the time he reached the upper primary, Amunga had become a regular name in local drama competitions. He often took on leading roles in plays that tackled real-life social issues. His performances were not just entertaining—they were thoughtful, mature, and creative.
After completing primary school, Amunga hoped to join a secondary school that would support and grow his talent. He performed well in his exams and was admitted to Chavakali High School, where his artistic journey flourished even further. At Chavakali, he transitioned into stand-up comedy, performing at school events and various competitions across the country.
"Performing helped me grow into a confident artist. I’ve never been afraid of people, not even large crowds. That confidence has always pushed me to pursue my talent," he says.
His uncle, Timothy Ondeko, recalls how Amunga’s gift was evident from an early age: “Even as a young boy, he had a way of making people laugh—but also think. He wasn’t just entertaining; he was communicating something deeper.”
Now, having completed high school, Amunga is channeling his creativity into writing scripts and producing skits in collaboration with other artists.
His content often goes viral on social media, where his following continues to grow. His dream is to perform at the Kenya National Theatre and eventually make it to the big screen.
"I’m committed to growing in this field. Yes, there are challenges—especially when it comes to equipment like cameras for shooting quality videos—but I’ll keep pushing forward with what we have. The goal is to entertain and inspire," he emphasizes.
Amunga draws inspiration from the late British comedy legend Charlie Chaplin. During his free time, he watches Chaplin’s performances, learning the art of silent storytelling and comedic timing.
In a country rich with young talent, Amunga Wahid stands out as a reminder that even the simplest beginnings can lead to extraordinary journeys—with passion, resilience, and the courage to keep performing.
