A simple Facebook post changed Roseline Tiema’s perspective on working abroad. The registered nurse at Wakhungu Dispensary had always thought the process was complicated, but after attending a specialised training in Busia, she now sees a clear path.

"The process isn’t as complicated as I thought. As a nurse, it's important to explore various opportunities, and this program provides all the guidance needed. I am eager to advance my career through this organisation," she said.

Tiema was among dozens of healthcare professionals who gathered at Farmview Hotel in Busia for a training session organised by Kenyan Nurse Consultants (KNC).

The initiative aims to equip Kenyan nurses with the knowledge and support needed to transition into international healthcare systems, particularly in the United States.

Justice Justus, a representative from KNC, said they have already conducted similar sessions in six counties across Western Kenya and have ambitious plans to expand across Africa.

“There are thousands of highly skilled but underutilised nurses in the region, and we want to connect them with global opportunities. The demand for nurses in the U.S. and other countries is huge, and we are here to help them navigate the process,” Justus explained.

Beyond training, KNC assists with job placements, helping nurses secure positions with reputable employers abroad. The training covers critical areas such as credential verification, licensing exams, visa processes, and job placement in reputable U.S. healthcare facilities.

For Renny Magero, a nurse at Bwingi Dispensary in Samia, the session was a game-changer.

"I heard about the Kenyan Nurse Consultants through a friend, and the training has clarified so much for me. Working in the U.S. has always been my goal, and now that I have the right guidance, I feel ready to take the next step," she said.

Justus encouraged more nurses to take advantage of the opportunity, register for training, and equip themselves with the necessary skills to succeed globally.

With the increasing demand for healthcare professionals worldwide, initiatives like this could be the key to unlocking new career horizons for many Kenyan nurses.
