Gen Z Youths in Kakamega Reject Governor’s Talks, Demand Immediate Action
Gen Z youths from Kakamega County have rejected the possibility of being included in talks with the governor over their demands, delivering a strong warning to those who accept the invitation slated for Monday this week.
Speaking after a service at the House of Grace church in Kakamega County, they urged the governor to adopt their demands, which they claim are very obvious, and to avoid meetings that will not yield any results.
"We have unanimously decided not to engage in any dialogue with the governor. We want him to act on the requests we made earlier; we want him to work for the people who elected him and consider creating employment for the youths in the county," they said.
They also chastised everyone masquerading as their leaders and planning to attend the aforementioned meeting with the governor, declaring that they, as Gen Z, are leaderless, tribeless, and unrecognizable.
"We don't remember choosing leaders among ourselves; if any, they might be goons selected by you, Governor, to represent us. The sovereignty belongs to the people; you have to sit down as a leader and listen to them," they added.
The Governor, addressing a teachers' gathering in Shinyalu, expressed his plans to engage the youths on Monday in a discourse that will pave the way for the effective operation of the county administration.
"As chairman for ODM Kakamega County, I fully support Hon. Raila Odinga's call for dialogue, which must include Gen Z leaders. We have listened to Gen Z concerns, and we are ready to engage them on critical issues concerning the governance of our country and county," the governor stated.
Church leaders from the area have urged youths to engage in discussions with both the national and county governments for the greater good.
Led by Kakamega County Chaplain Ken Baraza, they emphasized the importance of youths communicating with stakeholders from both governments and Generation Z to avoid the current spate of deaths and abductions.
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has defended the youngsters' struggle in their quest to liberate the nation, urging both the county and national governments to heed the genuine demands of Gen Z to end the weekly anti-government protests.
Initially, the Kakamega Gen Z had issued an ultimatum of fourteen days to the county administration to implement all their requests, including the dismissal of the entire cabinet and improving all facilities delivering services to the residents.
