Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has confirmed that the ongoing renovations at Butere Level Four Hospital will be completed and the facility commissioned in November.

The upgraded hospital is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services for local residents.

During a visit to the facility, Barasa emphasized that the hospital’s renovation is a key part of his administration’s broader plan to revamp the county’s health sector.

“Butere Level Four Hospital is central to our strategy of revitalizing healthcare in Kakamega. It reflects our commitment to improving medical infrastructure and ensuring quality healthcare is available to all,” the governor said.

He also revealed that additional upgrades are planned for health facilities across the county to ensure a comprehensive overhaul of the healthcare system.

"Similar improvements are in the pipeline for other health facilities across the region to further strengthen healthcare delivery," Barasa added.

As part of his six strategic pillars for transforming Kakamega County, Barasa highlighted that improving healthcare infrastructure remains a top priority. He also announced plans to refurbish the planning offices within the hospital’s premises, which will be converted into sub-county headquarters to boost administrative efficiency.

“These offices will be transformed into the sub-county headquarters, improving service delivery and administrative coordination,” said Barasa.

Further, the governor disclosed plans to relocate the training activities from Butere County Polytechnic to a new, larger facility in Emurwa village, which is currently under construction.

“These initiatives will create a comprehensive hub for both healthcare and training in Butere,” Barasa noted.

The governor also positioned the revamped hospital as a future center for medical education, benefiting both residents and upcoming healthcare professionals.

In addition to the Butere hospital project, Barasa provided an update on the expansion of Kakamega Level 6 Hospital, which is on track to increase its capacity to 750 beds, with the support of the National Government.

Governor Barasa was joined on his tour by County Secretary Lawrence Omuhaka, Chief Officer of Health Services David Alila, and Chief Officer of County Administration Doreen Amwoga.
