Heavy Rains Cause Major Delays in Bukhungu Stadium Construction
CS Ababu Namwamba inspects Bukhungu Stadium

Ababu Namwamba, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, acknowledged significant delays in the construction of Bukhungu Stadium.

Namwamba attributed the delay primarily to heavy rains during his visit to inspect the progress of various stadiums in the western region at Bukhungu.

He emphasized that construction efforts must accelerate urgently now that the rainfall has reduced.

"The main problem here has been the heavy rains, which have severely disrupted work. However, with the rains subsiding, the pace of construction must increase significantly," he stated.

Namwamba also noted that the construction of Bukhungu Stadium is behind the original schedule set at the project's launch. He stressed the need for intensified efforts to expedite the project's completion.

"We had set specific timelines for finishing this project, but we are now well behind schedule. Therefore, it's crucial to pick up the pace," he said.

The Cabinet Secretary mentioned that the project should be completed within the next fiscal year with the national government's funding allocation.

"We must finish this project within the upcoming financial year, as the funds allocated for it are within the 2023-2024 financial year. We don't want to carry over these funds to another year, so the project must be completed in the next fiscal cycle," he emphasized.

Additionally, Namwamba affirmed the national government's commitment to collaborating with the county government of Kakamega to ensure adequate funding and timely project completion.

"We will continue to work with the county government of Kakamega," he added.
