Kakamega County Marks World Environment Day with Focus on Development and Conservation
As Kakamega County marked World Environment Day in Senyende, the spotlight was on both environmental conservation and the notable development initiatives spearheaded by Governor Fernandes Barasa.
Leading the event, Minister of Water and Environment Penina Mukabane commended Governor Barasa's significant contributions to the region's development. Mukabane emphasized the need for patience and support from local leaders to allow the governor to fully realize his vision for the county.
"Governor Barasa has achieved a lot in terms of development, and it is crucial that we allow him the time and space to fully implement his agenda. His efforts are setting the foundation for sustainable growth in Kakamega, and it is our collective responsibility to support these initiatives," said Mukabane.
The minister's remarks underscored the importance of unity among the county's leadership. She called on Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Female Representative Elsie Muhanda to support Governor Barasa's ongoing and future projects, urging them to set aside early campaign activities.
In addition to acknowledging the governor's development efforts, Minister Mukabane highlighted the proactive measures taken by the Kakamega County government to combat climate change. She noted the county's comprehensive strategies to protect the environment, including the fencing of Kakamega Forest.
