Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has called on the National Treasury to promptly allocate financial resources to county governments to help combat the effects of heavy rainfall across the country.

Speaking at the county headquarters, Savula emphasized that county governments are facing challenges in managing the floods and assisting the disaster victims. He urged the Central Treasury to fulfill its responsibility in this regard.

"We are experiencing delays in implementing infrastructure development. That's why we are seeking intervention from the national government to release funds to the county government for infrastructure development in the affected areas, particularly for the repair of destroyed bridges, culverts, latrines in ECD centers, and roads. We also have a high risk of hunger due to crop destruction," he said.

The deputy governor stated that many areas in the county have been affected by the rain and measures have been taken to address the effects, including inspections of kindergarten schools.

"In light of the presidential announcement that schools will reopen on Monday, we, as a disaster committee, are prepared to monitor our ECD centers to ensure the safety of our school-going children, who may be at risk of being swept away by flooding rivers in Kakamega County," he added.

He also mentioned that the affected facilities include Misino Primary School in Kabras and South Chemuche in Malaba, among others that have experienced destruction.
