Kakamega County Governor, H.E. FCPA Fernandez Barasa, has confirmed that adequate security arrangements are in place for the upcoming 11th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games. The event, set to be held at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega, will run from November 20 until the end of the month.
Speaking at Kakamega Golf Hotel after officially taking on the role of KICOSCA Patron, Governor Barasa emphasised that security remains a top priority. He assured attendees that his administration is working closely with security agencies to ensure peace and safety, especially in Mumias West Sub-County, where the games will take place.
“I have had discussions with our regional police commander, and I assure my brothers and sisters coming to Kakamega that activities will run smoothly,” Governor Barasa said.
The Governor also expressed gratitude to the Council of Governors for entrusting him with the patron role for the next year.
“As I take the oath of office as the new patron of the association, I want to assure everyone that the 11th edition will proceed as planned. I may not be the best, but I commit to working tirelessly to make our nation proud. This is particularly important as we prepare to lead our teams in the East African KICOSCA competitions in Uganda,” he stated, extending special thanks to his predecessor, Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
H.E. Simon Kachapin, Chair of the Council of Governors' Sports Committee and West Pokot County Governor, expressed confidence in Governor Barasa’s leadership.
“I had the privilege of working with him in the energy sector, and I am confident he will deliver on his duties as KICOSCA patron,” Kachapin remarked.
He further highlighted the broader significance of the games: “These events are not just about competition; they offer a platform for cultural exchange and regional cooperation, embodying the spirit of devolution that drives our nation forward.”
Meru County Executive Committee Member for Sports, Youth, and Gender, Mr. Ben Mungalia, also extended congratulations on behalf of Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
“It is an honour to officially hand over the patronage of KICOSCA leadership to H.E. Fernandez Barasa,” Mungalia stated, thanking Governor Mwangaza for her cooperative leadership and advising the new patron to follow her example.
The 11th KICOSCA Games in Kakamega promise to be a celebration of sports, culture, and unity, with leaders pledging to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for participants and spectators alike.
