Efforts are underway to complete President William Ruto's affordable house construction plan in Kakamega by September. The houses, which include single rooms and are self-contained, will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
During a meeting with the leaders responsible for distributing the construction materials, Hebron Kibet Kipkemoi, the chief officer overseeing the construction, announced that plans are in place to finish the multi-story building by early September.
"We have completed forty-eight percent of the project, and I encourage anyone in need of a vacant room to make arrangements early to secure a space," said Mr. Hebron Kibet.
He also expressed confidence in achieving the President's goal of constructing one million houses nationwide by 2027, and urged all participants to work diligently.
"Providing quality and affordable housing for low-income Kenyans is a priority under the social pillar of Kenya Vision 2030. Additionally, through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, the government aims to address the housing gap by delivering 250,000 houses per year," added Hebron Kibet.
He further explained, "In Kakamega, we have taken measures such as increasing the number of employees and installing electricity lights throughout the site, enabling us to work during the night hours."
Humphrey Simiyu, in charge of all welders in the county, and Wycliffe Makale, his counterpart, praised President William Ruto's house plan and encouraged their colleagues to join the project.
"As representatives of all welders in Kakamega, I agree with Hebron Kibet's statement and assure the President that we are working around the clock to complete the house project by September. I call on qualified individuals in welding technology to come to the site so that we can work together. We require three thousand metallic doors, with a distribution of two hundred doors per week," concluded Wycliffe Makale Musumba, the chairman of engineering works in the county.
