Kenya's KCSE exams start with focus on student value addition
The official commencement of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) main examinations took place on Monday morning with more than 903, 260 candidates expected to sit for the exams across the country.
Representatives from the Ministry of Education arrived at different exam distribution centers early in the day to oversee the process of distributing examination materials.
At the Westlands DCC center, the exercise was led by Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, while Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia supervised the exam distribution at the Mvita center in Mombasa County.
Kipsang emphasized the importance of focusing on adding value to students, stating that the results achieved by the candidates are a reflection of the efforts of school teams.
“Our focus should be on value addition to our students. Whatever results that our children will get is from the input of our teams in schools,” Kipsang said in a media address on Monday.
Kipsang added that the ministry has deployed helicopters in some regions to transport the papers and tight security measures have been put in place.
"Yesterday, helicopters were deployed to uncharted areas, and I emphasize the need for our colleagues to exercise caution in view of significant increase in security as a result of this deployment," said Kipsang.
Following the practical exams, the candidates will now proceed to the main subjects, with the examination period concluding on November 24, 2023.
