New Lokichoggio Water Officer to Enhance Water Access
By Turkana Correspondent
John Nalokio, a seasoned water quality inspector from Turkana West, has been appointed as Lokichoggio's first dedicated sub-county water officer. His appointment marks a significant step forward for water services in the region.
The announcement was made by Patrick Losike Lokaimoe, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water Services, at the recent Turkana West WASH Forum.
Previously managed under the Kakuma-based administration, Lokichoggio has now been restructured as a distinct sub-county with three wards—Songot, Nanam, and Lokichoggio—now under its own jurisdiction. Lokichoggio town will serve as the sub-county headquarters.
In his new role, Nalokio will be responsible for water services across these three wards. His predecessor, Emmanuel Echapan, will continue managing water services in the remaining wards of Letea, Kakuma, Kalobeyei, and Lopur within Turkana West.
CECM Lokaimoe highlighted the importance of this new position in enhancing water services within Lokichoggio’s jurisdiction. “Nalokio’s experience in the water sector and his strong rapport with local communities make him the ideal candidate to advance Lokichoggio’s water access initiatives,” he said.
Lokaimoe also encouraged Nalokio to collaborate closely with Echapan, especially in areas like partner engagement and integrating new water companies into local services to ensure a smooth transition.
Nalokio, expressing commitment to his new role, stated, "I am focused on creating a collaborative framework that addresses the community's water needs effectively and supports partner involvement to enhance service delivery."
