Schools Opening Postponed to 6th May
Government postpones opening of schools to May 6 due to heavy rains
The Ministry of Education has decided to delay the reopening of primary and secondary schools by one week to Monday, May 6, 2024.
Last week, in response to the heavy rains, the Ministry directed its field officers to collect data from all Basic Education Learning Institutions across the country. This information was needed to assess the readiness of the schools for the start of the Second Term on Monday, April 29, 2024.
Reports received at the Ministry of Education, along with data from other relevant government agencies, indicate that many schools in different regions of the country have been severely affected by the rains. The damage caused is so extensive in some schools that it would be unsafe to risk the lives of students and staff without implementing adequate safety measures.
Based on this assessment, the Ministry of Education has decided to postpone the reopening of all primary and secondary schools by one week, until Monday, May 6, 2024. During this time, the Ministry will collaborate with relevant agencies and stakeholders to address the impact of the heavy rains and will provide regular updates on the developments in the education sector.
