The Turkana County Government has announced several projects aimed at improving relations and development among cross-border communities along the Kenya-South Sudan border.

During an intercommunity peace dialogue in Lokichoggio, Sub-County Administrator Obed Echip outlined five initiatives intended to benefit both the Turkana and Toposa populations.

These projects include the construction of the Nadapal-Napakin road, resettlements at Nadapal and Kapetadie, the dispensary at Loteteleit, a fresh produce market at Nadapal, and a water pan at Loremiet.

Echip noted that joint management committees would oversee the market and water pan to ensure they serve cross-border populations effectively.

Echip also stated that the recent Kimormor exercise in Kapetadie benefitted Toposa community members living in Turkana kraals and emphasized that the ongoing relief food distribution would be inclusive.

Lokichoggio Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Ooko Anyumba, who was also present, described the area as a tri-nation hub bordering South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Uganda.

He highlighted the importance of livelihood diversification to sustain peace in the region and urged the delegates at the dialogue to implement the resolutions fully.

The event brought together the Turkana community from Kenya, the Toposa and Didinga communities from South Sudan, and the Nyangatom community from Ethiopia.
